States Congressman J. Danforth Quayle 1976-1980; elected as a Republican to the
Ninety-seventh and to the three succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1981-January
3, 1989); elected to the One Hundred First Congress but did not serve;
appointed on December 27, 1988, effective January 3, 1989, to the United States
Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the election of J. Danforth Quayle as Vice
President; elected by special election in 1990 to the remainder of the term;
reelected for a full term in 1992, and served from January 3, 1989, to January
