JEFFRIES, James Edmund, a Representative from Kansas; born in Detroit, Wayne County, Mich., June 1, 1925; attended the public schools; graduated, Cranbrook Academy, Bloomfield Hills, 1943; attended Michigan State University, Lansing, 1947; served in United States Army Air Corps, 1943-1945; investment counselor, corporate director, 1956-1979; delegate to Kansas State Republican convention, 1978; elected as a Republican to the Ninety-sixth and to the Ninety-seventh Congresses (January 3, 1979-January 3, 1983); was not a candidate for reelection in 1982 to the Ninety-eighth Congress; died on August 22, 1997, in Tucson, Ariz.
