Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, La., 1948; United States Navy, World
War II; aide to Senator Wayne Morse; aide to Representative James G. Polk;
delegate, Democratic National Convention,1980 and 1984; member of the Louisiana
State Democratic Financial Council; member of the Louisiana state central
committee; member of the Louisiana Democratic leadership council; elected as a
Democrat to the Ninety-ninth Congress by special election, to fill the vacancy
caused by the death of her husband, United States Representative Gillis W. Long
(March 30, 1985-January 3, 1987); was not a candidate for reelection to the One
Hundredth Congress in 1986; is a resident of Washington, D.C.
