University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minn., 1975; United States Navy Reserve; elected to the Minnesota
state senate, 1976-1982; elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-eighth and the
five succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1983-January 3, 1995); not a candidate
for reelection to the One Hundred Fourth Congress in 1994; unsuccessful
candidate for Governor of Minnesota in 2002.
