Board of Commissioners, 1969-1970; served in Michigan senate, 1971-1977; elected as a Republican to the Ninety-fifth and to the seven succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1977-January 3, 1993); was not a candidate for renomination in 1992 to the One Hundred Third Congress; died on June 11, 2009, in Plymouth, Mich.
