Johnson to Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations, 1967; president, National Association of Counties, 1972; elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-fourth and to the three succeeding Congresses; H. Res. 80, 97th Congress, adopted February 24, 1981, declared the seat vacant due to an incapacitating illness (January 3, 1975-January 3, 1981); died on June 19, 1988, in Rockville, Md.; interment in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
