TIERNAN, Robert Owens, a Representative from Rhode Island; born in Providence, Providence County, R.I., February 24, 1929; attended La Salle Academy; A.B., Providence College, Providence, R.I., 1953; J.D., Catholic University Law School, Washington, D.C., 1956; admitted to the bar in 1956; lawyer, private practice; elected to the Rhode Island general assembly, 1960-1967; elected as a Democrat to the Ninetieth Congress by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of United States Representative John E. Fogarty; reelected to the three succeeding Congresses (March 28, 1967-January 3, 1975); unsuccessful candidate for renomination to the Ninety-fourth Congress in 1974; member, Federal Election Commission, 1975-1981; died on October 15, 2014, in Providence, R.I.
