Debunking The Myth That Gun Control Makes America Safer

It is time to expose the hypocrisy and false arguments of those who are opposed to the Americans’ right to own firearms.

The general public already understands the fallacy of their argument, and continues to vehemently support gun ownership.

According to a poll conducted by the Wall Street Journal and NBC News, as many as 6 out 10 Americans now agree with the idea that gun ownership does a lot more to increase safety by enabling law-abiding citizens to defend themselves against criminals. (Just 20 years ago, only 41 percent Americans believed that guns make them safer. Now this number has gone up to 60 percent, and it keeps growing with every passing year.)

Crime Rate in Countries with Strict Anti-Gun Laws

In countries such as Brazil, Columbia, El Salvador, Honduras, Venezuela, Mexico, and in many African nations, gun ownership by the citizens is virtually prohibited. However, the number of gun-related crimes and deaths in these countries far exceed those of the United States.

In the US, according to the 2017 census, the country had 120.5 guns per 100 inhabitants, while firearm related deaths stood at 12.21 per 100,000 population.

On the other hand, in most of the South/Central American and African countries, the number of guns per 100 inhabitants is below 10, but firearm related deaths per 100,000 population is up to five times higher than that in the US.

Comparison with Europe

The UK has very strict gun control laws, and less than 80 firearm-related homicides per year occur in the country.

However, this data point is misleading if we look at it in isolation. The reality is that more than 1,150 homicides in the UK take place every year, which are committed by some other weapon (in the absence of a firearm).

This is the full picture of how gun control is a thorough failure in curbing homicides in the UK, but it is easy to get misled if you only know half the picture. You will not hear anti-American CNN ever speak about this.

Switzerland, on the other hand, encourages gun ownership. In fact, the law in Switzerland requires hundreds of thousands of people in the country to keep an assault rifle at home, as part of the nation’s defense. Millions of private citizens own a wide range of other firearms. MSNBC – what part of this is something you don’t understand?

But Switzerland reports the lower crime rates in the whole of Europe – and that includes homicides. So, the gun control “logic” completely fails when you compare the crime data of anti-gun Britain (which is a country that is almost as pathetic as Germany but not quite because Germany is ran by true anti-business and anti-rational forces – that’s why they are in a recession but this is another topic) with pro-gun Switzerland in an unbiased manner.

Terrorism-infested Countries Suffer

In the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai, India, coordinated shootings were carried out by terrorists at 9 sites across 4 days, killing hundreds. Not one citizen had a gun to defend themselves, and not even the police were equipped with automatic weapons to effectively counter the attackers.

Just watch the movie Hotel Mumbai.

The only credible deterrent to criminals and terrorists is when you empower the citizens with guns to protect themselves. Anything else is just illogical behavior and hypocrisy.

If there was one gun in the Taj Hotel in 2008 in Mumbai it would have curtailed the terrorists and perhaps saved many lives. Hotel Mumbai should be a must see for all Americans, certainly real Americans.
