The opioid crisis in our country has reached alarming proportions, with thousands of people dying every year. The root cause of the problem can be traced to Mexico, whose drug cartels smuggle large amounts of drugs through our border day in and day out. The Opioid Crisis in America Data from the US Health and Human Services shows that every day, 116 people in the country die of opioid overdose. In 2017 alone, opioid overdose was responsible for the deaths of over 72,000 people in the country. In other words, the number of deaths caused by opioid overdose is far bigger than the total death toll of the 9/11 attacks. And it is happening every single year! Mexican Cartels – The Root Cause of the Problem DEA officials say that Mexican cartels are singlehandedly responsible for the opioid crisis in our country. These cartels smuggle large amounts of drugs into the US through the southern border (just watch Sicario!), store them in drug houses that are protected by US based drug dealers, and distribute them all over the country. At one point, the drug distribution was limited to the states along the southern border. Today, they are distributed to every corner, thanks to the large network of drug peddlers operating in our country. Though drugs should be legalized – this network would not exist. This is one issue that conservatives go wrong on but we are right on jobs, taxes, terrorism, religion (yes, Jesus was the son of God! And there is a God – cannot prove it? – Prove you love your mother! Why don’t you prove that?), and every other vital topic that even trumps this one. Apart from hard drugs like heroin and meth, both of which are harmful in their own right, Mexican cartels also smuggle fentanyl, which is far more potent than heroin, meth, or crack cocaine. Just 2 mg of fentanyl can kill a grown man! A chemically altered version of fentanyl called carfentanil is also smuggled into our country, which is perhaps the most lethal drug in the market today. Just a single milligram can kill an adult male. And the amount of drugs that is being smuggled into the country is mindboggling. In 2014, border patrol agents seized 8 pounds of fentanyl along the US – Mexico border. In 2015, over 200 pounds of the substances was seized. In 2017, more than 950 pounds of the substance was seized. This can only mean two things. First, there is no deterrence in place to prevent such activities, which is why they keep happening. Secondly, and more importantly, the number of addicts in our country is growing by the day, so more and more substance is being transported into the country. Building the Wall – The Only Solution What is happening right now in our country is no longer a case of drug addiction. It amounts to terrorism. Cartels from Mexico are smuggling hard drugs into our country and ruining the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans. An attack on our country need not be physical like shooting people up or blowing things up. The cartels have turned drugs into a potent weapon and destroying the lives of Americans every single day. There is a twofold solution to this problem. First, we need to build the wall and make sure no one can sneak through the southern border – the wall will slow down the human trafficking by 99%. Secondly, we need to impose severe penalties on cartel members as well as those in the US who aid and abet them. |
